You may have noticed we switched out our usual "Aaniin" greeting for this version of the News River. We recently learned why "Boozhoo" can be considered a more appropriate greeting in this context.
Our team was grateful to learn this from elder and language keeper Lillian Cook earlier this week. Lillian is from Sagkeeng First Nation on the shores of the Winnipeg River and Traverse Bay in Manitoba. Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) is her first language.

Recent events like Collision 2023 have been accompanied by talks to improve inclusivity in the workplace for Indigenous Peoples, and professionals from other marginalized communities.
