During this last News River before the Animikii team takes a break for the holidays, we would like to thank you all for your support throughout the year.

Our goal is to continue sharing vital stories of Indigenous empowerment, perseverance, and resurgence from around the world – especially from independent and Indigenous-owned news sources.

Today during the Winter Solstice, we acknowledge that this can be a difficult time of year for many. We encourage you to keep your neighbours, acquaintances and community in mind through out this holiday season. Above all, we hope for healing, guidance, and quality time with family and friends.

The COP15 biodiversity conference in Montréal ended on Monday, and we saw plenty of compelling climate journalism featured:

The Narwhal covered the First Nations Guardian Network and four B.C.-based projects with massive climate impact that will soon be decided upon. Also, the CBC showcases an enviro-tech program at Nunavut Arctic College.

South of the border, an Outside Magazine feature discusses federal co-management of public lands, water, and wildlife with local tribes, and Grist covers the urgent need to ban uranium mining in the Grand Canyon.
