This week in Indigenous tech news, BetaKit interviewed Virtual Gurus founder Bobbie Racette about her plans for acquiring Series B funding and championing diversity in tech. Virtual Gurus closed $8.4M in Series A funding in 2022, when Raven Indigenous Capital’s Paul Lacerte spoke on the BetaKit podcast about the importance of making capital accessible to Indigenous entrepreneurs.  

“As the saying goes, if you don’t count, then you don’t count,” says Neil Weare of the Right to Democracy advocacy group. Grist tapped Neil to ask about data collection equity issues in U.S territories. For communities of Indigenous Pacific Islanders in the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa, this leads to serious concerns as climate change disrupts everyday life.
